OUR STORY
Tim Yarosh was studying computer science while attending college when he decided to drop out and develop an online startup. He took a job at a family owned salvage yard to pay the bills while working on different business ideas.
Working there, he noticed the difficulty people had getting rid of their junk vehicles. They had to call several local junk yards, find someone that was willing to take the car away, and then hope the tow truck would show up. Tim saw it as an unapproachable and unpredictable industry; with low expectations from the public. He wanted to change that by giving people a fast and easy way to have their vehicles removed for free.
A user friendly website was created, using colorful design to contrast the stereotypical "junk yard" image. With that, Junk my Car set off to provide the best customer service the industry had ever seen.
Junkmycar.com went live in August of 2004, offering free junk car removal throughout Connecticut. From a closet-sized office, Junk my Car's operation quickly grew to consume half of the salvage yard's warehouse. Service coverage expanded from New England, to the entire United States, later extending into Canada.
The rest is history. The Junk my Car team exploded in size from three to over fifty employees, encouraged by the demand for their vehicle removal and recycling services. It soon became time for Junk my Car to find an office of its own. In 2008, Junk my Car said goodbye to the salvage yard and moved into their new headquarters. Breaking away from an outdated Nine-to-Five work day, Junk my Car adopted a Results Only Work Environment encouraging employees to take control of their own schedules and work how they want, where they want, and when they want.
Today, Junk my Car assists in the removal of over 30,000 vehicles across North America each year.
